Tucked into a modest spot on The Strip in The Valley, Good Korma is the island's unlikely and utterly beloved Indian take-away, run by an Anguillian chef who trained in England and came home to share the craft.
The Experience
Owner Serena Banks spent nearly a decade cooking in British curry houses before returning to Anguilla and opening Good Korma in late 2015 ΓÇö the first place on the island to serve proper made-from-scratch Indian food. It's small, unfussy, and refreshingly local: a few picnic tables out front, a compact menu chalked with the day's protein options, and the warm scent of toasted spice drifting toward the road. Order at the counter, grab a seat under the trees, or take it to the beach in one of the aluminum containers she uses instead of styrofoam. The vibe is more neighborhood curry shop than fine dining ΓÇö and that's exactly the point.
What to Try
Start with the almond-based korma if you like it creamy and mild, or the Birmingham-style balti if you want stir-fried peppers, onions and a bit more edge. The tikka masala is a reliable crowd-pleaser, and the butter korma made with cashew is quietly her most decadent sauce. Adventurous eaters should ask about the Caribbean-style conch or goat curry ΓÇö a rare, island-tinged twist on the menu. Everything comes with basmati rice, bombay potato, raita and apple coleslaw, so one plate is a full meal.
Insider Tip
Heat levels are dialed way down by default (English curry-house tradition), so if you like real spice, tell Serena when you order and she'll build it up for you. Also: beef curry isn't on the everyday board ΓÇö call ahead a day in advance and she'll usually make it happen. And don't skip the complimentary mints she tucks in with every order.
