A crescent of soft sand wedged between a salt pond and a working harbor, Sandy Ground is where Anguilla trades its polished resort face for barefoot beach bars, live music drifting over the water, and locals catching up over cold Caribs.
The Experience
Stroll in from the road and you'll hit warm, shallow water the color of sea glass with fishing boats bobbing in Road Bay just offshore. By day it's low-key: swim the calm north end, watch cargo unload at the little pier, and duck into a shaded picnic table for grilled snapper. As the sun drops behind the hills, the whole strip flips on: string lights come up over the sand, someone tunes a steel pan, and by 9pm you're choosing between a reggae set at one bar or karaoke down the beach. It's the closest thing Anguilla has to a nightlife district, but it still feels like a village where everyone knows everyone.
What to Try
Order a rum punch (or the notorious Mamawanna) at Elvis' Beach Bar and post up on the boat-bar for sunset. Grab fish n' chips at Roy's Bayside Grill for a lunch with a view. Split creative tapas and specialty fries at SandBar during happy hour. If you're around on a Friday, Dolce Vita's waterfront karaoke is a genuinely fun scene. Divers should book a morning trip with Scuba Shack right on the sand ΓÇö the wrecks in Road Bay are a short boat ride out.

Skip the mid-afternoon lull and time your arrival for the golden hour before sunset ΓÇö grab a drink, walk the length of the beach barefoot, then circle back to whichever spot has the crowd you want. On Sunday nights, ask around for who's playing live; the best sets aren't usually advertised, they're just the bar with the most bikes parked outside.
The Practical Stuff
Free public beach access with parking along the road; no entrance fee. Restaurants and bars are cash- and card-friendly, but tips are appreciated in USD or EC. Water is calm and family-safe, though there's boat traffic near the pier ΓÇö swim toward the northern end. Nightlife peaks ThursdayΓÇôSunday; some spots close early on Mondays.
