Why Go
Down a dusty dirt path at the far west tip of Anguilla, Sherricks Bay is the kind of beach you find only if someone tells you it's there ΓÇö a wild little crescent of coral, limestone and sand where the Caribbean feels genuinely untouched.
The Experience
This isn't a chair-and-cocktail beach. Sherricks is rugged, isolated, and almost always empty, save for a single villa perched at the eastern end. The waterline is a patchwork of sandy pockets, weathered limestone shelves and coral, while the softest sand hides along the back edge under the sea grape. Sit up there and the view opens onto St. Martin floating on the horizon and a dramatic angle on the Covecastles villas next door. The soundtrack is wind and waves ΓÇö no music, no vendors, no crowds. Sunset here, with the sky going pink over the cliffs and the outer islands turning to silhouettes, is one of Anguilla's quiet showstoppers.
What to Try
Come for the scenery and the walk, not for lounging. Wander the tide pools along the rocky shelves, scramble the low cliffs for photos of St. Martin, and ΓÇö if you're feeling adventurous ΓÇö use Sherricks as the launching point for the hike out to the Anguillita Vantage Point, a rocky, sometimes arduous ramble along the coast to the island's westernmost tip. Pair it in the same afternoon with a swim at Shoal Bay West, just a few minutes back up the road, where the water is calmer and the sand is deeper.
Insider Tip
Skip the swim gear and bring proper shoes. Much of the sand has washed off the waterfront, so entry can be sharp and shallow, and the real magic here is exploring. Reef-safe water shoes, a hat, sunscreen and a full water bottle turn a mediocre swim stop into a memorable little adventure ΓÇö especially if you push on toward Anguillita.
The Practical Stuff
Location: far west end of Anguilla, past Shoal Bay West and the Covecastles resort area, reached by a short dirt track off the main west-end road. No facilities: no bar, no restrooms, no chairs, no shade beyond what you make. Free and open to the public, sunrise to sunset. Best visited late afternoon for cooler light and sunset views over St. Martin. 4x4 not required but a small SUV makes the track easier; rental cars manage it slowly. Cell service is spotty ΓÇö download offline maps before you go.
