On an island famous for rum punches and beach bars, Denecia Niles built something almost radical: a soft-spoken tearoom perched above South Hill Village, breezes drifting through the veranda, St. Martin's mountains hazy on the horizon, and a menu that reads like a passport ΓÇö Jade Cloud green from China, Golden Yunnan black, house-blended local bush tea, Moroccan Mint over ice. It's the kind of place you didn't know Anguilla had, and once you find it, you slow down whether you planned to or not.
The Experience
You climb a set of stairs off the main road near the Sandy Ground roundabout and step into pale walls, natural wood furniture, and soft lounge music — a zen pocket tucked above the everyday bustle of South Hill. Large windows and a covered veranda open toward the Caribbean, and the trade winds do most of the air-conditioning. Denecia, the Anguillian-born, Slough-raised founder, imports her leaves personally from India, China, South Africa, and Ceylon, and brews them with the patience they deserve — no bitter over-steeps, no weak dunks. Regulars settle in with adult coloring books and pencils, or pull out the Jenga, Connect 4, and hookey stashed in the corner. It's less a café stop than a small ritual: a proper pot, a homemade cupcake, and an hour you didn't know you needed.
What to Try
Order the Chocolate Chai or a Golden Yunnan if you like your blacks rich; the Jade Cloud or Genmaicha for something greener and grassier; and the Lavender Twist or Moroccan Mint iced if the day has turned hot.
