Zemi Thai House Spa
A 300-year-old teak house from Thailand, reassembled on Shoal Bay East as Anguilla's most transportive spa
Why Go
This isn't a hotel spa with a Thai motif ΓÇö it's an actual antique teak house, shipped piece by piece from Thailand and reconstructed on Shoal Bay East, now home to Anguilla's only hammam and 15,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor treatment space.
The Experience
Set on the grounds of Zemi Beach House at the quiet end of Shoal Bay East, the spa unfolds across nine treatment rooms tucked inside a two-story antique Thai house with hand-carved mahogany walls, vaulted ceilings and hanging lanterns that sway in the trade winds. You drift between the Bohique Mud Deck (a nod to the Taino healers who once inhabited Anguilla), a traditional Turkish hammam, a vitality pool, outdoor rain showers, and a juice bar tucked into a converted Thai rice barn. Therapists are trained in Thai, Balinese and Japanese traditions, and treatments lean ceremonial rather than clinical ΓÇö long, deliberate, and unhurried.
What to Try
Start with the signature Thai massage delivered in the northern Thai tradition, or book the hammam ritual with black soap and kessa scrub ΓÇö the only one on the island. The Bohique mud wrap uses local herbs and tropical fruits pressed into the skin; the Japanese-style face massage is a quiet cult favorite; and the chakra-balancing scalp treatment finished with warm coconut oil is the one regulars keep coming back for.
Insider Tip
Day passes aren't advertised, but non-resort guests can book a treatment and access the full spa grounds for the day ΓÇö arrive at least an hour early to soak in the hammam and vitality pool, then linger in the rice-barn juice bar afterward with a fresh ginger-turmeric shot. Ask about couples' suites when booking; they're vast and rarely mentioned online.
The Practical Stuff
Located at Zemi Beach House, Shoal Bay East, on Anguilla's north coast. Reservations essential and often booked out in high season ΓÇö call +1 264-584-0001 or email thaihousespa@zemibeach.com. Bring swimwear for the hammam, pool and outdoor showers. Gratuity is typically added to the bill. Allow extra time in your day: this is a place to arrive early and leave slowly.
Pair It With
- Shoal Bay East Beach — Step from the spa straight onto one of the Caribbean's most iconic two-mile stretches of powder-white sand ΓÇö the perfect grounding after a two-hour treatment.
- 20 Knots — Zemi Beach House's own beachfront restaurant is a natural next stop for a light lunch, ros├⌐ and sunset views without breaking the spell.
- Rendezvous Bay — If you'd rather cross the island for dinner, this calm south-coast bay pairs well with a morning spa visit and a slow beach-bar afternoon.
