The National Nature Reserve of Saint-Martin is a protected marine and terrestrial reserve established in 1999, covering approximately 29 km² of marine areas (including reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves) and 1.8 km² of land on the French side of the island. Managed by the Association de Gestion de la Réserve Naturelle de Saint-Martin, it aims to conserve biodiversity, restore damaged ecosystems, monitor water quality and species (such as sea turtles, rays, lobsters, and coral), and promote sustainable use through education and regulated activities. The reserve offers guided nature walks, snorkeling and diving in designated zones, educational programs, eco-tours, and volunteer opportunities. It is special for protecting endangered species, preserving critical habitats like the Tintamarre islet and Pinel Island, and providing public access to pristine natural areas while enforcing rules to minimize human impact.
