Why Go
Anguilla is famous for its flat, powder-white beaches, so the handful of modest hills scattered across the island tend to fly under the radar. Buntin Hill is one of only four named peaks on the whole island, and while it tops out at just 57 meters, that little bump above the scrub is enough to unlock a horizon-wide look at turquoise water, salt ponds, and the tin roofs of North Hill village below.
The Experience
Getting to Buntin Hill feels less like ticking off a landmark and more like wandering into local Anguilla. There is no ticket booth, no signposted trailhead, no parking lot ΓÇö just a rise in the road as you loop through the residential lanes that spider off the Fountain and North Hill areas. Sea grape, frangipani, and low, wind-bent acacia line the way. Reach the top in the late afternoon and the light does the heavy lifting: the western sky pinks up over the channel toward St. Martin, goats pick their way across the limestone, and the trade wind takes the edge off the Caribbean heat. Because there is essentially nothing built on it, Buntin Hill is one of the rare spots on Anguilla where you can stand still, hear only wind and distant surf, and see the shape of the whole island ΓÇö a long, thin strip of coral rock floating in impossibly blue water.
What to Try
Time your visit for sunrise or the golden hour before sunset ΓÇö the low light picks out Sandy Ground's salt pond, Road Bay's anchored yachts, and the outline of Scrub Island to the east. Bring a wide-angle camera or phone lens, plenty of water, and sturdy closed-toe shoes; the ground is loose coral rubble and dry grass, not groomed trail. Pair the climb with a slow loop through North Hill village afterward to see traditional Anguillian chattel-style homes.

Locals treat these small hills as everyday landscape, not tourist sights, so there are no rails, benches, or shade. Go early morning to beat the sun, wear long, light pants to fend off the scratchy scrub, and be respectful ΓÇö you may be crossing near private land, so stick to the road edges and ask if you are unsure. Cell service is solid up top, which makes it a favorite quiet spot for a call home with a very good backdrop.
The Practical Stuff
Buntin Hill sits inland near North Hill, roughly in the middle of Anguilla and easy to fold into a day that also takes in Sandy Ground, Shoal Bay, or The Fountain. There is no admission fee, no set hours, and no facilities of any kind ΓÇö bring your own water, sun protection, and insect repellent. A rental car or scooter is the easiest way in; taxi drivers can drop you at the nearest junction but scheduled pickups are worth arranging in advance, as ride-hailing does not operate on the island. Elevation is modest (about 57 m / 187 ft), so the walk up is short but exposed, and midday sun is intense.
