Why Go
At just 73 metres (240 ft), Crocus Hill wouldn't turn heads in most places ΓÇö but on famously flat Anguilla, this modest rise is literally the top of the island, and the whole Caribbean seems to unroll from it. On a clear morning you can pick out St. Martin, Saba, and even St. Barts from the same spot.
The Experience
The approach is more neighbourhood stroll than hike ΓÇö you'll wind up through a quiet residential lane near The Valley, past goats grazing in scrubby yards and the occasional weather-worn signpost. The reward at the summit is a 360-degree sweep: turquoise shallows to the north over Crocus Bay and Little Bay, the cactus-dotted interior stretching south, and a horizon studded with the ghostly outlines of neighbouring islands. Beside the view sit the ruins of Anguilla's old courthouse and the Anguilla Revolution Monument, small reminders that this hill was once the administrative and symbolic heart of the island. It's the kind of stop that takes 20 minutes but reframes how you see the rest of your trip.
What to Try
Walk the short loop past the courthouse ruins and pause at the Revolution Monument ΓÇö the plaque is easy to miss but tells the story of Anguilla's 1967 breakaway from the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla federation. Then follow the ridge to the seaward edge for the best photo angle down onto Crocus Bay's crescent of sand far below.

Come at sunrise or in the hour before sunset ΓÇö midday sun is brutal and the light flattens the water's colour. Locals will tell you the view after a passing rain shower is the real prize, when the air clears and you can see all the way to Saba, 50 miles south.
The Practical Stuff
Free and open access, no gate, no facilities ΓÇö bring your own water, sunscreen, and a hat. A regular rental car handles the approach roads easily; park along the residential lane and walk the last stretch. Allow 20ΓÇô30 minutes on site, longer if you want to descend toward Crocus Bay afterwards. No restrooms or shops nearby, so plan a stop in The Valley before or after.
