Why Go
While the rest of Anguilla chases the postcard-perfect stretches of Shoal Bay and Meads, Crocus Bay stays quietly loyal to its regulars ΓÇö a horseshoe of powder sand tucked beneath limestone cliffs, with water so clear you can watch parrotfish drift past your ankles at the shoreline. It's the beach locals slip away to when they want the Caribbean without the crowd.
The Experience
Crocus Bay sits on Anguilla's northern coast, reached by a curving road that drops suddenly through scrub and cactus to reveal the cove below. The sand is powder-fine and the water almost always glassy ΓÇö the cliffs at either end shelter the bay from the trade winds that ruffle the island's south side. Fishing boats bob in the middle distance, kayakers glide toward the caves along the cliff base, and a scattering of loungers spills from Da'Vida Beach Club at the far end. There's no boardwalk, no jet-ski hustle, no vendor loop ΓÇö just a slow, sun-warmed pocket of beach where the loudest sound is usually a pelican hitting the water.
What to Try
Snorkel the cliff wall on the northern (Da'Vida) side of the bay ΓÇö the reef starts in waist-deep water and drops into a garden of sea fans, feather dusters and Christmas tree worms, with trumpet fish, banded butterflyfish, surgeonfish and the occasional green turtle. Rent a kayak or SUP from Da'Vida and paddle 15 minutes west around the headland to Little Bay, a tiny, cliff-locked cove you can't reach by road. Cap the day with grilled snapper and rum punch on Da'Vida's beachfront deck.
Insider Tip
Go on a weekday morning before 10am ΓÇö the water is at its stillest, the light comes in low across the cliffs (perfect for underwater photos), and you'll usually have the northern reef to yourself. If you're kayaking to Little Bay, hug the cliff face on the way out to spot the sea caves and the rope swing locals use to jump in from above.
The Practical Stuff
Free public beach access via the road that descends from The Valley, with a small parking area at the bottom. No entry fee. Kayaks, paddleboards, snorkel gear and loungers rent from Da'Vida Beach Club on the north end (open daily, roughly 10amΓÇô9pm). Bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes ΓÇö a few rocky patches sit between the sandy zones. Shade is limited outside Da'Vida, so pack an umbrella or claim a lounger early. Cell service is reliable; there are no ATMs at the beach itself, so bring cash for tips.
